The 55NiCrMoV7 steel is a low alloyed hot work tool steel according to DIN standard,and 1.2714 steel is as per W-Nr Germany standard. This material has very good high temperature toughness with shock and fatigue strength characteristics. It also has good hardening properties.

2)55NiCrMoV7 tool steel should be free of heavy scale,deep pitting,laps,porosity,injurious segregations,excessive nonmetallic inclusions,seams,cracks,slivers,scale marks,dents,soft and hard spots,pipes or any defects that would detrimentally affect the suitability of 1.2714 steel.
3)Visual examination for 1.2714 steel shall be made to ensure compliance with the requirements for workmanship,finish,dimensions and tolerances,identification marking and packaging.
The permissible deviation of 55NiCrMoV7 tool steel shall not exceed 3mm in 1000mm length.This applies also to bars under 1000mm in length.Measurement is taken on the concave side of this grade with a straight edge.
DIN 1.2714 tool steel annealed hardness values when obtained in accordance with the latest issue of test methods and definitions A370 shall not exceed 255 Brinell.
Heat uniformly to 740-760°C. Soak well and cool slowly in the furnace.
Preheat 1.2714 steel to 600-700°C,then increase to the hardening temperature of 850-880°C. Air or oil quenched. The 55NiCrMoV7 should be tempered once they become hand-warm.
DIN 1.2714 steel should be done with the least possible delay after hardening.Select a suitable tempering temperature, heat slowly and uniformly.When it has reached the desired temperature, soak for at least one hour per 25mm of whole dia.Double tempering is recommended.The second tempering should be a repetition of the first.
